Throw a Wrench In Your Plans

Ask John,
hands-free on your glasses.

The Ask John™ companion app for Ray-Ban Meta glasses: capture the job with TradesIP™ while your hands stay on the work, and ask code-strategy questions out loud — answered back, spoken, in the field. Free during the soft launch.

How it appears on the hub

The new card joining The tools — same look as the other five.

Hands-free capture
Meta Glasses

Ask John™ on Ray-Ban Meta glasses — hands-free TradesIP™ capture and voice code-strategy Q&A, free during the soft launch.

Try it on your glasses — step by step

Everything you need, in order. No step is skipped, and nothing records without your say-so.

Step 1. What you need

Ray-Ban Meta glasses — displayless is fine, Gen 1 works — plus the phone they are paired to, with the Meta AI app updated. Your phone stays nearby during a session: it is the companion that runs the app. Apps do not run on the glasses themselves.

Step 2. Turn on Developer Mode

On the phone paired to the glasses, open the Meta AI app → Settings → App Info → tap App version 5 times → toggle Developer Mode on. This is what lets a demo build install on the glasses before any public listing exists. Grant camera permission when the app asks.

Step 3. Get the companion app — Coming soon

When the Beta opens, install the companion app on the phone paired to your glasses. There is no download yet — this page will carry the install link the day Beta invites go out. The Beta is invite-only; there is no public store listing yet.

Download — coming soon

No link here on purpose: a download button that goes nowhere would be worse than an honest “coming soon.”

Step 4. Sign in with your Ask John account

Open the companion app and sign in with your Ask John portal account (magic link, same as the portal). Same account, same wallet — the glasses are a front end to the portal, not a second app.

Step 5. Say “Ask John”

“Ask John” is the voice keyword. Say it and the companion wakes up, hands-free, phone in your pocket.

Step 6. Consent first — nothing records without it

Before any capture starts, give spoken consent and confirm your data-owner label (your company name). The session cannot start until both are set. You own the record.

Step 7. Capture the job, by voice

Pick the install type — the demo walks a water heater tank replacement — then walk the steps by voice: “next step,” “mark complete.” The glasses record continuous video plus a timestamped mark at each completed step. That video-plus-marks record is the labor-hours record. One thing to know: closing the hinge ends the session for good — a new session starts fresh, it never resumes a closed one.

Step 8. Ask questions hands-free

Ask code-strategy questions out loud any time. Answers come back spoken, and every spoken answer ends with: “Informational only — confirm with your local authority having jurisdiction before you build.” Your Q&A thread is saved in the portal, same as a typed question.

Step 9. Review it in the portal

End the session and find it in your Ask John portal, indistinguishable from a session captured on a phone — same steps, same marks, same video.

Free during the soft launch. Voice Q&A through the glasses is free while the soft launch runs — the point right now is getting the brand and the protocol in front of the trade, not charging for a novelty. Portal pricing for everyone else is unchanged.

What is not in v1: a public store listing (Meta's curated list is not open to submissions yet), per-step still photos (video + marks only), and the screen version — display and plan review come in v2.
